Becoming a Global Citizen
Participating in the Global Learning Medallion program has been one of the most transformative parts of my time at FIU. From volunteering at citizenship drives with the Florida Immigrant Coalition to studying business firsthand in Dubai, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam—I’ve grown academically, professionally, and personally.
Through every experience, I learned that global engagement begins with curiosity, continues through empathy, and leads to action. Whether helping immigrants apply for citizenship or learning how multinationals operate in Southeast Asia, I realized that solving global challenges requires people who are adaptable, culturally aware, and committed to making a difference.

This program pushed me beyond the classroom. I gained a deeper understanding of world issues through the SDG Symposium, webinars on Venezuela and the Peace Corps, and even community action like the Shatter the Stigma 5K run. All of these experiences shaped my belief that being globally aware means staying involved both locally and internationally.

I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned and apply it to my future career in international business—hopefully within global organizations like the United Nations, where I can help create inclusive, sustainable solutions across borders.
“Global learning is not a one-time experience—it’s a mindset that I’ll carry with me for life.”
